It’s no secret - Atlanta’s food scene is bursting at the seams and finding its own voice. As the culinary capital of The New South continues to come into its own, a wake of fresh food festivals is hitting the local scene. For the true Atlanta foodie, it’s never too early to start planning for a year of foodie festivals and events. We did the research for you and pulled together seven of the must-attend events in the new year.
Team Hidi Presented by The Giving Kitchen
When: January 29, 2017
Where: The Stave Room at American Spirit Whiskey Distillery
The Story: If you’re a philanthropic foodie, The Giving Kitchen’s largest annual fundraising event of the year is a must-attend. When Atlanta Chef Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed with late stage cancer in 2012, the groundwork was set for his Staplehouse legacy, now America’s #1 restaraunt via Bon Appetit, as well as its nonprofit entity, The Giving Kitchen, providing emergency assistance grants for Atlanta area restaurant workers facing an unanticipated hardship.
The Details: This year’s event will be held at The Stave Room at American Spirit Whiskey Distillery and feature restaurants such as Local Three, Kimball House, Leon’s Full Service, Fifth Group, nationally recognized Staplehouse and more. A few of the best local bartenders will be on site mixing up specialty drinks and Yacht Rock Revue will be in the building for your entertainment.
Atlanta Food and Wine Festival
When: June 1-4 2017
Where: Midtown, Atlanta
The Story: Created in 2010 by Atlanta entrepreneurial duo Elizabeth Feichter and Dominique Love, this annual festival aims to shine an international spotlight on the foodie traditions of the South (from Texas to the District of Columbia). Design to allow patrons to enjoy all things Southern.
The Details: The weekend is made up of three unique activities: learning experiences (carefully-crafted by the Festival’s esteemed Advisory Council), tasting experiences (designed to take guests on an epicurean journey through the South) and dinner/events (special chef dinners, signature parties and restaurants around the city). These events sell out fast, so be sure to sign up for their newsletter to stay in-the-know when tickets go on sale.
Where: 200 Peachtree
The Story: Bringing Atlanta a taste of the pastry industry’s top talents, Pastry Live attracts the nation’s best Pastry Chefs for a weekend of fierce competition including: Art of Cake, Chocolatier of the Year, Signature Plated Dessert, and more.
The Details: Pastry Atlanta will feature some of our city’s finest pastry chefs from local restaurants, bakeries, hotels and more. Each will share their best bites with event goers in hopes of taking home one of Pastry Live’s “Atlanta’s Best” awards.
Taste of Atlanta
When: October 2017
Where: Midtown at Tech Square
The Story: Now in its 16th year of existence, Taste of Atlanta takes festival-goers on a foodie adventure through Atlanta’s diverse neighborhoods. It is a place to gather with family and friends to eat your way through our city, sampling the best dishes while interacting with the chefs and mixologists of Atlanta’s top restaurants.
The Details: If you’re a food lover who has yet to make your way out to this event, know that you’re missing out. The three-day food festival returns this October with more than 90 neighborhood restaurants showing off their tastiest dishes. VIP patrons will enjoy unlimited samples of craft beer, wine and creative cocktails. Event goers can expect professional chef presentations, hands-on cooking demonstrations, the Barcraft bartending competition, and events for the kids.
Fun With The Big Green Egg
When: November 19, 2017
Where: Pine Street Market
The Story: Pine Street Market is known for their handmade artisan meats (salami, bacon, sausage, pancetta and coppa). They use cutting edge technology to offer the highest quality, fine dining products. In addition to their retail store, you can find their products around many of Atlanta’s local farmers markets and restaurants.
The Details: Our paleo friends can now enjoy an afternoon of meat and magic with Pine Street Market. They will be joined by local chefs, brewers, food producers and farmers who all share one thing in common - love for The Big Green Egg. Guests include Taiyo Ramen, Tox Bros, Wrecking Bar, Brickstore Pub, Shmaltz Brewing and more.
Atlanta Veg Fest
When: November 11, 2017
Where: Cobb County Civic Center & Anderson Theater
The Story: Atlanta Veg Fest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle to the Atlanta community. The annual event began in 2012, founded in compassion for animals, people and the environment.
The Details: Calling all Atlanta vegans - this event is made for you. The day consists of, you guessed it, vegan food, engaging speakers and presentations, cooking demonstrations, a vendor marketplace and more. Although all event details have yet to be released for next year’s event, we’re anticipating big things for 2017.
Atlanta Street Food Festival
Where: Stone Mountain Park
The Story: The Atlanta Street Food Festival is an annual, day-long event featuring the biggest food truck collaboration in Atlanta. It was named one of the Four Best Food Truck Festivals in the Country and one of the Five Latest and Greatest things to hit the South according to Southern Living Magazine.
The Details: Devoted to celebrating Atlanta’ vibrant street food culture, The Atlanta Street Food Festival is a local event the whole family can enjoy. The promise?
